UIPM 2024 Pentathlon World Cup Budapest: Men’s Qualification

UIPM 2024 Pentathlon World Cup Budapest continued today with 87 athletes taking part in the men’s qualification round.

Among the successful qualifiers were Tokyo 2020 Olympic bronze medallist Woongtae Jun and his in-form Korea team-mate Changwan Seo, joint world No.2s Mohanad Shaban of Egypt and Emiliano Hernandez of Mexico, European champion Giorgio Malan of Italy and three-time Pentathlon World Cup Final winner Valentin Prades of France.

The first athlete across the line in Qualification Group A was Richard Bereczki of host nation Hungary, with the day’s highest score of 1,193 points, followed by Daniel Lawrynowicz of Poland and Jan Kuf of Czech Republic.

The top performers in Qualification Group B were Hernandez (MEX), Jozsef Tamas (HUN) and Seo (KOR).

In Qualification Group C, the standout performers was Shuai Luo of China 1191, followed closely by a batch of five athletes including local favourite Csaba Bohm (HUN).

Pentathlon World Cup Budapest continues tomorrow (April 25) with the Women's Semi-finals, followed by the Men’s Semi-finals on April 26, the Finals on April 27 and the Mixed Relay on April 28.
