Therapeutic Use Exemptions (TUE)

All UIPM registered athletes who need to take medication/treatment which is on WADA’s Prohibited List must submit a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) application if they want to take the medication/treatment they need while continuing to compete.

If the international athlete does not already have a TUE granted by his/her National Anti-Doping Organisation (NADO), he/she must apply directly to the UIPM.

If the Athlete already has a TUE granted for national-level competition by his/her NADO, that TUE is not automatically valid for international-level competition and it is necessary to apply to the UIPM for recognition. If the TUE meets the criteria set out in the International Standard for Therapeutic Use Exemptions, then the UIPM will recognize it for purposes of international-level competition.

TUE applications are sent to the UIPM (antidoping@pentathlon.org) by the athlete or through the athlete’s National Federation no less than 30 days before approval is needed (i.e. competition). If this is not possible, the urgent basis of the application should be indicated.

TUE applications will not be considered for retroactive approval except in the cases mentioned in article 4.3 of the International Standard for Therapeutic Use Exemptions.

The initiative of renewal of a granted TUE is under the athlete’s responsibility.
