Hi Guys, Sorry, I have not written for awhile, but I have been busy training and then competing at the European Championships. Last time I wrote, I was in a National Training camp in Tata. This was fantastic for me, I got so strong and fit leading into the European Championships. A competition that means so much to me, especially since it was in my home country.
The week before the European Championships I stepped down my training a lot to be well rested for the event. So the first day of competition I was fully relaxed and ready for action! Competing in Debrecen was incredible for me. Watching and helping me I had all my family (which isn’t small) friends and all of my trainers, masseur which was very important to my success. Having so many people watching me and urging me on did put a lot of pressure on me to perform. I think this is why I had such a poor fence in the final. I was very disappointed, I just was not flexible enough. But this helped me fire up and swim a personal best time (without the fast suit) in the pool which moved me up 15 places!!! I was very happy. My riding was also good, however due to a lot of people had a clean course this did not move me up too much. In the Combined a felt really strong, I really wanted to do well in front of my home crowd. But I started off terribly! By 1st shoot was horrible. This was helped by my strong running, I felt like I was flying, this was helped by the massive, loud crowd supporting me. Also me and my trainers did such a good job getting me in shape and it showed! My 2nd and 3rd shoots were good and I managed to finish in 5th position. I was a bit disappointed to miss out on the podium but still happy as this was my best ever performance at a European Championships. Being in my home country I was swarmed for the entire time by the media. From Live TV, to news stations to newspapers I was getting my photo taken or answering some questions. I love promoting the sport so I am always happy doing this. The most exciting event happened in the Women’s relay where we managed to grab the Gold medal!! I couldn’t believe it, I was so proud. My team mates did a fantastic job and I couldn’t be happier to win it with them. We certainly celebrated after the event in style! After the European Championships, I took a much needed weeks vacation. I went with some of my family, my boyfriend Peter and 2 dogs to Croatia to have some relaxing time on the beach. It was so good to re charge my batteries after a hectic few months. However that time is over now and I am back into intense training for the World Championships in China! Where I am desperate to get onto the podium! Leila xoxo |
