Ukraine one-two as Buriak claims second successive title

The Women’s Final at World Cup #4 lived up to its billing with a tightly contested combined event capping off a quality day of competition in Budapest, Hungary. Ganna Buriak confirmed Ukraine’s dominance this season with her second triumph in a row, adding to her compatriot Victoria Tereshuk’s gold in Palm Springs, USA, in the first World Cup Series event of the year.

Cesarini of Italy storms to early lead with superb display in fence

Italian fencing sensation Claudia Cesarini blew the rest of the field away in the first event of the Women’s Final at World Cup #4 in Budapest. The 26-year-old won an incredible 29 from 35 bouts to claim 1096 points as she came close to matching the world record set by China’s Xiaonan Zhang in Palm Springs earlier this year.

Great Britain’s Olympic silver medallist Samantha Murray powered to a first place finish in the pool to move up to eighth overall with the combined event still to go in the Women’s Qualification Group A. Her time of 2:08:55 added 1260 points to her total.

Ready and raring to go at UIPM World #4 Budapest

The stunning city of Budapest in Hungary will from today be hosting some of the world’s top pentathletes in a competition that is sure to set the pulses racing. With the teams having arrived for this UIPM 2013 World Cup #4, which lasts from 9 to 13 May, the press conference was held at Pasaréti Honvéd Lovarda, the venue for the Final’s riding and combined events, and once again it attracted a host of national journalists.
