Dennis Bowsher (Dallas, Texas) has a thing for odd-numbered years. The 28-year-old member of the U.S. Army's World Class Athlete Program, and a resident athlete at the Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center, won his fourth U.S. Modern Pentathlon National Championship title on Sunday on the grounds of the Training Center. All four of his national titles have come in odd-numbered years (2005, 2007, 2009 & 2001).

From the Youth Olympics to World Cup #2 In Singapore last year the top Youth Modern Pentathletes from across the globe gathered to compete in the Youth Olympic Games. For these young athletes it was the pinnacle of their fledgling sporting career. It also gave them a taste of what was to come, competing at an elite level against the best in the World.

Saksen & Isaksen Claim US Open Title

On 7 January 2011, 32 athletes aged between 13- 27 came to Rancho Mirage, California to test their physical abilities in Pentathlon at the 2011 US Open. Athletes were from Canada and the United States, with a mix of Elite Pentathletes with juniors and seniors also competing in hope to qualify for the 2011 World Cup Series. There were also some newcomers who surprised everyone in the overall standings, the youngest being 13 years old.

An image of the Youth Olympic Games Modern Pentathlon mixed relay pairing of Youth Olympic Games Gold Medallist Cuban Leydi Laura Moya Lopez and American Nathan Schrimsher has been selected as 1 of only 4 Peace and Sport Image of the year nominations. The 18-year-old teenagers who were picked by chance to form the team at the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in Singapore and could hardly communicate in English or Spanish, but successfully represented the two nations which have gone through 50 years of political tensions and demonstrated that sport promotes dialogue. Although Cuba and the USA have competed against each other in sports competitions, this was the first time in decades that Cubans and Americans paired up in a professional event in such a friendly atmosphere. Then, the award will be officially presented during the 2010 Peace and Sport Awards Ceremony  which will take place during the Gala Dinner of the Peace and Sport International Forum, on 2 December, in the Principality of Monaco.

Fate threw them together. Together they made sports history. They bridged 90 miles, 50 years and a raft of political complexities, two teenagers, both 18 years old, one American, the other Cuban. In the mixed relay event that wrapped up the modern pentathlon competition at these first-ever Youth Olympic Games, Cuban Leydi Laura Moya Lopez and American Nathan Schrimsher competed together as a team. Two nations, one entry on the start sheet.
