The Hungarian’s finished 20 seconds ahead of Ye Zhang and Jiahao Han (CHN) who claimed silver and the Russian pair of Gulnaz Gubaydullina and Ilia Shugarov who won a well-deserved bronze.
"This was my 1st time doing a mixed relay, but I really liked it" stated Kovacs."I loved competing with Bence Demeter. We were really a really strong teal, but it was really hard as the Chinese & Russian team were really good."
This gold medal caps off a dream week and a dream year for Kovacs who successfully defended her individual Junior World Championship title on Saturday. Her partner and boyfriend Demeter finished 4th yesterday, so he will be pleased to finish his breakthrough season on a high with a gold medal.
The Hungarian pair had a very consistent day. They finished 2nd in the fence with 27 victories only 1 behind the impressive Chinese pair. Kovacs & Demeter matched their performance from the fence in the swim also finishing 2nd with a time of 1:57.72.
Only 2 rails down in the ride, meant they finished with the highest score and a lead of 25 seconds heading into the combined event. With both of them being incredibly experienced, they never looked like losing the gold and comfortably pocketed yet another gold medal of their young, fledging careers.
