The 2 Ukrainian silver medallists from the individual event Anastaysia Spas and Denys Pavluk (UKR) came from behind to snatch silver, just ahead of the local duo Anna Maliszewska and Przemyslaw Kryczka who brought the large crowd to the feet and they won bronze.
The Latvian pair started off the day in breath taking fashion, only losing 5 out of their 32 bouts before clocking the 3rd fastest time in the pool of 1:58.99. However it was their perfect ride which was the key to their gold as they were the only pair to manoeuvre their horses around the tricky course without any penalties.
These heroic efforts in the 1st 3 events ensured that the young duo started 1st in the combined event with a 52 second lead. Lucky for them that they had such a commanding lead, as Ukraine managed to close the gap to 11 seconds, but they had to settle for silver as the gold was heading to Riga.
