During the weekend of the 14-16  January  was the 3rd Winter Pentathlon arranged in Helsinki. This competition was held to honour  the brave athletes that took part in 1948 in the Olympic Games Winter Pentathlon.  This Year there was 14 athletes from different age groups on the starting list and also masters friends from Estonia.

Fencing was the first event this year with all together 56 matches to fence. The best result was 41 victories that gave 1080 points.

During Saturday the weather was excellent and giant slalom was held in sunny weather with only -10 c in close to ideal conditions. Best time was done by Tomi Kosunen who did he course in 26.2 seconds.

Cross country skiing was the toughest part in this competition and 5.4 km track did take about 25 minutes on average. There were a lot of hills on the track and all athletes had to give their best to make a good time.  Best performance was made by Eki Karlsson who made an excellent time of 19:31 minutes.

The last day was the old fashion master air-pistol shooting 20 shots in 30 minutes. The shooting results where not so good and several athletes seemed to have problems. The reason might have been the hard effort on the cross country course or the hot sauna the pervious night.

Riding was arranged as a last event in Kerava Riding School.  Horses where very nice and all riders performed high points. In the masters riding safety is the number one point and with this in mind the competition was held on the 80-85 cm level.  The best overall result was done by Karri Virkajärvi FIN who got a total of 5367 points.
