Singapore – 16 days to go to the Opening Ceremony and only 12 days before the opening of our venue to the athletes. July has been the month of ‘bumping in’ – construction of the seating galleries, shooting range, camera platforms, OVR rooms, platforms for scoreboards; laying of carpets; setting up of lighting; putting in partitions; laying down cables; installing technical equipment; delivery of sport equipment, furniture and stationery.

July also saw two exercises take place – General Readiness Exercise on 5-8 July where the telecommunication channels between venues were tested and VENEX 2, which welcomed 660 technical officials and volunteers to the venue, during which they were introduced to the SYOGOC venue team, instructed on workforce related matters and were taken on an in-depth venue tour.

From Bumping In the next step is Moving In and the competition management office for Modern Pentathlon is now up and running. The competition manager (me!) will re-locate from SYOGOC HQ on Monday, 2 August to the Singapore Sports School and on this day also I will be joined by 3 assistants Kieran Foo, Rebecca Koh and Eduarda Pinto.
