Home to the Cutty Sark, the National Maritime Museum and the world-famous observatory, Greenwich always draws the crowds. But for the London 2012 Olympic Games, Greenwich Park has been transformed into a magnificent sporting venue.
It has already hosted the Olympic equestrian events, and now with some rapid - but carefully planned - adjustments will provide the perfect setting for the final three disciplines of the modern pentathlon.
Athletes today had a chance to practice on the laser shooting range that will be used for the first time in the new combined event in between laps of a testing running course.
And there was an opportunity to try some of the horses that have been stabled within the park for several days to ensure they are familiar with the setting for the show jumping.
The men’s event gets underway tomorrow at 0845 with the fencing event, which will be followed by the swimming in the Aquatics Centre. Keep up to date with all the action at www.pentathlon.org and on twitter @UIPM_HQ.
