The federation is seeking a production company for its World Cup Series and World Championships events over the next four years, saying that it wants to "expand its broadcast and internet coverage for the coming period" and to appoint a partner to "support the organisation in enhancing coverage of the sport, taking it to new markets and bringing innovation to the broadcast production of modern pentathlon."
In recent years, the UIPM has developed live webcast coverage of its major events to ensure live coverage in numerous countries, supplemented by ready-to-air highlights programmes and news packages distributed to various territories.
The UIPM has worked with Horizon Solutions, the UK-based production and IT firm, since the start of 2010.
Horizon Solutions was awarded a three-year contract for production, development and modernisation of the UIPM’s post-production television programme, webcast and website highlights, and the federation said that, working with its production partner, it has "grown UIPM’s TV proposition from its infancy to being comparative with many other international federations."
A deadline of 5pm (CET) on December 10 has been set for expressions of interest in the production tender, with a proposals submission deadline set for December 17 (also at 5pm). Candidates are set to be notified of the success of their bids by January 10 next year, before contract negotiations begin. A contract is scheduled to start on January 26.
Specifying the exact role of the production partner, the UIPM said that it is seeking to produce a post-production television programme (of a length open to negotiation) and live webcast from five World Cup events and the Senior World Championships on the men’s and women’s final day and the mixed relay.
The UIPM is looking for a production team to travel to events for which there is no host broadcaster (an average of two per year) and take charge of all filming, along with managing and producing the live webcast, highlights and daily summaries, news edits and post-production television highlights show.
Events that already have a host broadcaster will require the production company to work with the host broadcaster to create one signal of "good enough quality to be distributed to all UIPM’s live TV partners."
Outlining its aims and objectives for the new production contract, the world body said: "UIPM is looking for not just a production company, but a partner, who will work closely with the organisation to bring imaginative, creative and innovative ideas that will further develop and expand all UIPM TV and digital media.
"With sports production being a constantly evolving market, UIPM wants its productions to evolve with it, using the latest technologies and new ideas to be on par with other international sports productions.
"UIPM believes that the better the quality of production, the more chance it has of selling the production to TV and internet networks. UIPM also wants a partner to help UIPM develop its live TV strategy, which is currently using host broadcasters live signal to distribute internationally."
