The championships took place at in El Shams Club, one of the most famous clubs in Egypt, that hosted the first two UIPM world cup in Egypt, years 2006 and 2007, and always it’s the home for the most national and international events in modern pentathlon.
The championship was directed by the head of the UIPM coaches committee; Mr. Awad Samy, the man who has a special taste and great vision, as well he directed many international events here in Egypt such as the 2009 UIPM Youth A world championship, 2008 UIPM Junior world championship in addition to many stages of the UIPM world cup series. The organizers did a great job, as everything was started and finished on schedule, the venues was as the international rules said and were all together in a walking area. You could hear many people say "It's an international event", "First time to see a national event like this" which was very encouraging.
For the first time in the history of the Egyptian modern pentathlon, a huge number of 135 athletes a 48 females and 87 males was participated in this championship from 8 clubs.
The championship started in the 30th of Novmeber at 7:00 AM with the swimming event for both gender, while the 2011 Youth A African champion Reem Yakout of the Police union club clocked first in the girls with time of 2:23.24 and in the boys Ziyad Hossam Ali of Harass el Hodod and Sherif Yasser of Police club both posting the same time of 2:06.41 in the same heat.
After that, we all moved to the fencing hall, started with the girls first at 9:00 AM, in a two groups, put together in the same time and finished both after just two hours. In the Group A Shourk Kamal Hosny of Naser city club, dominated the fencing event with a massive score of 1240 points, this put her in the second place overall after two events after Alaa Ashraf of the Police club after she finished in first place in the group B with 1176 points in fencing.
The 2011 youth a African champion Reem Yacout was back in fourth place after two events after a disappointing fence, after she stated: "I won the swimming, I am not happy with my fencing today, it's my strongest event, but I feel it's not my day, let's see what will happen tomorrow"
In the boys, there were three groups, Yasser Mohamed Mostafa topped the fencing event with a big score of 1160 points, after two events Amro Ahmed Hassan Ramdan of El Shams club led, while the first place in the swimming Sherif Yasser went back to the second place.
The second day was the combined event. 15 years old Sondos Helmy of El Shams club was the best performance in this event with 14:50 to put her in the first place and the gold medal, while the second place went to the 2011 Youth A Afrrican champion Reem Yakout of the Police union club , after she finished in the second place in the combined event, "I am happy with my performance in the combined event, I did very well, maybe I wasn't my best day in fencing, but thanks god, I won the silver" Reem said.
The third place went to Alaa Ashraf from the same club. In the teams, the first place went to the Police Union of Reem Yakout, Alaa Ashraf and Marim Hassan. While El Shams club got the silver the team of Sondos Helmy, Heba Ayaman and Sarah Ahmed and the bronze medal was the military foundation team of Mary Atef, Toka Safy and Sandy Abd El Rahman.
In boys, it was no surprise to see the best performance came from Mohamed Walid Youssef of Nasr city club, as he came from the 15th place to won the bronze medal in the youth A African championship last year.
Mohamed won both the combined event and the gold medal with an overall point total of 4272 points Mohamed was started with a poor swim of, 2:19.42 "You know, we still at the beginning of the season" he said "I am happy with my results today, especially in the combined event, which is my strongest event, and I love it, the competition was outstanding, I did it step by step, I never gave up, and finally won the gold" the talented athlete Mohamed Walid Youssf said.
The silver medal went to Amro Ahmed Hassan Ramdan with 4220 points, and the 14 years old Sherif Yasser of the police club got the bronze medal with 4188 points "You don’t know how much I am happy today, it was my second fencing event, I did very bad in the first one, I did well in the swimming and combined but the fencing put me out of everything, my score was 640, I trained very hard, and this time I scored 1000 points, and could able to won a medal" Sherif Yasser said.
In the teams, El Shams club team of Amro Hassan, Ali Mohamed and Youssef Hassan won the gold medal, the Nasr city club team of Mohamed Walid, Hussin Essam and Ahmed Sobhy took silver, while the bronze medal went to the Police union of Sherif Yasser, Ahmed Ezz and Ahmed Ashraf.
The awards ceremony attended by the new Egyptian Modern Pentathlon President Eng. Sherif El Erian and the President of the Egyptian Rowing Federation Khaled Zien, who said "Really, it's an international championship" the whole competition was attended by the board members of Mr. Bassem Shehata, Mr. Hussien Gamal, Mrs. Shereen Saleh, Captain. Hani Farouk and Mr. Usama Kamel.
In the end of the championship Eng. Sherif El Erian added "I am happy with that outcome of the competition, and also for the great results to the young athletes the 15 year old Sonds Helmy and the bronze medal winner Sherif Yasser from the police club". "Not only, I would like to congratulate Reem Yakout for her performance in the combined event, she did a great progress after it was a weak event for her" he said, it was really a great championship, we all happy with it, and wish to see more events like this.
