This substance is a stimulant (S6.b Specified Stimulant) and listed among the substances prohibited in-competition of the 2012 WADA Prohibited List. The athlete confessed having used an energy drink containing the prohibited substance and regretted his negligence of having been blindly confident that the shop, where he bought the nutrition supplement, would not sell prohibited substances and that he would not be misled by the responsible person there.
The UIPM Executive Board decided that Mr Kasyanik had to return the gold medal won at the Youth A Championships to the UIPM and declared Oleg Naumov from Russia, the former winner of the silver medal, the new Youth World Champion. This violation also means that Belarus have been stripped of their silver medal they won in the teams event.
Mr Kirill Kasyanik was confirmed as having been provisionally suspended by the Belarusian Modern Pentathlon Federation for the period from 23 September 2012 until the date of the hearing and was declared ineligible for a period of 18 months according to article 7.8.2 UIPM Disciplinary Rules. The ban will end on 22 March 2014, at 12 pm.
“UIPM has a zero policy to doping” stated UIPM President Dr h.c. Klaus Schormann.
“Modern Pentathlon has a proud tradition in being a clean sport for many years. This incident is disappointing, however it is an isolated incident, as UIPM has done 210 in and out of competition tests in 2012 alone, and they have all been negative. This is a strict reminder to all other athletes that they need to exercise extreme caution over what they put into their body.” concluded the UIPM President.
