Winter Pentathlon Viktor Platan Memorial Cup 2013



The 4th Winter Pentathlon was held in Helsinki in extreme cold weather, on the morning of the 19 January where the temperature was -29 Celsius as the brave  participants started the giant slalom.

During the day the temperature, thankfully rose to -20 and competition could take place.

A total of 15 athletes participated, varying from 81 to 23 years of age. Thanks to our fine point system we all could compete together.

The  Swiss Master Erwin Stalder did very well and won the competition with 5874 points in men’s pentathlon . Erwin had the best points of all in Giant Slalom showing us how the Swiss can ski.

The ladies Pentathlon was won by Heidi Walli from Finland with 4911 points which included the best points in traditional shooting with air-pistol totally 940 pentathlon points.

Ladies Tetrathlon was won by Ute Shifmann from Germany over Finland’s 9 time world champion in master fencing Marja-Liisa Someroja coming second.

The prices was handed out buy Viktor Platans relatives and a moment of silence was held to honor the memory of  Viktor who sadly did die just on week before the competition at 93.
