World #1 Aleksander Lesun (RUS), British pair Samuel Curry and Joseph Evans and Alvaro Sandoval (MEX) all made it through safely from Group A. Austrian Thomas Daniel who came 6th at the Olympic Games qualified for the Final in style, winning the combined event
In Group B Jamie Cooke (GBR) made it hard for himself having to come from 15th place tofinish 7th. But 2012 world cup champion Ilia Frolov (RUS) and European silver medallist Robert Kasza (HUN) made it look easy cruising around the combined event course. Jianli Guo (CHN) who won the event and his team mate Jiahao Han are through as well as Omar El Geziry (EGY) who joins his brother Amro in Friday’s Final.
In Group C , the top ranked athletes all managed to qualify, including Olympic Champion David Svoboda (CZE) and Olympic Bronze Medallist Adam Marosi (HUN), as well as the French pair Christopher Patte, who came 2nd in his group’s Fencing, and Valentin Prades. Dennis Browsher (USA), who started the Combined Event for Group C in first place, is the home nation’s sonly representative through to the Final.
Newcomer to the sport, US pentathlete Harrison Greene said of today’s event “It was a fantastically run competition and a great opportunity for up and coming athletes to compete on the world stage and get a taste of what Modern Pentathlon is all about.”
