Jiahao Han said after competing in his 1st senior event said: This is a dream for me getting a gold medal in my first ever World Cup. The Mixed Relay is a lot of fun and the shorter run suits me!
The Mixed Relay works by each teams’ athletes fencing only the same gender, swimming 100 meters each, both riding a reduced jumping course and then doing 2 laps of the Combined Event instead of 3.
Khurasinkina from the Russian team, who was leading the event after the fence and swim said “I had a perfect day, I broke my swimming personal best and enjoyed the energy and team aspect that the mixed relay brings.”
Khurasinkina’s partner Moiseev: “I am very pleased with the way I shot, I tried a different style and it worked perfectly for me, silver is very good!
Bronze medalist and World #1 Schoneborn said she “was very happy with her teammate Kollner, as he ran extraordinary in the last run to secure the medal. I hope there are more Mixed Relays as I love them.
The Irish team who finished 5th has every reason to celebrate as this is the biggest achievement for this new Modern Pentathlon Federation. An ecstatic Cooyle stated “It is such a great feeling to beat all these great teams which posses such high quality, it’s very satisfying that all the hard work has paid off”
UIPM President Dr h.c. Klaus Schormann is very pleased about the growth of the Mixed Relay: “This is the most exciting form of Modern Pentathlon. We want to share this with the Olympic Movement by getting this event accepted into the 2016 Olympic Games. It is loved by the nations, athletes and spectators and portrays the highest level of sportsmanship.”
