Nizhny Novgorod World Cup Final line-up revealed

With just ten (10) days to go until the 2013 Modern Pentathlon World Cup Final gets underway in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, UIPM is pleased to reveal the final entry list for one of the most highly anticipated events of this season’s calendar. The world’s top pentathletes are all set to battle it out on one of the biggest stages of all and some scintillating action will be expected throughout the three days of competition.

18 nations qualify for the Men’s Final

There were bunch finishes in each of the three Men’s Qualification groups in the combined events today at World Cup #4 in Budapest, Hungary. From 80 athletes competing, 36 made it to Sunday’s Final with 18 nations set to be represented.

Hwang ahead in Group B before combined

Woojin Hwang, who celebrated his 23rd birthday just two days ago, confirmed his fine form this season with a quality start in the Men’s Qualification Group B. The World Cup #3 Chengdu silver medallist first place in the fence, with 19 victories on the pistes, and his second place in the pool, put him in a commanding position ahead of the combined.

Ready and raring to go at UIPM World #4 Budapest

The stunning city of Budapest in Hungary will from today be hosting some of the world’s top pentathletes in a competition that is sure to set the pulses racing. With the teams having arrived for this UIPM 2013 World Cup #4, which lasts from 9 to 13 May, the press conference was held at Pasaréti Honvéd Lovarda, the venue for the Final’s riding and combined events, and once again it attracted a host of national journalists.

World Cup #2 Preview

With the first event of the 2013 World Cup Series having already captured the imagination of the wider sporting public, fans around the globe are now eagerly awaiting to see how the top pentathletes on the planet will fare at World Cup #2, which begins Wednesday 20 March in the picturesque Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro.

Hungary to start in the Combined Event

Representing Hungary, Leila Gyenesei and Adam Marosi scored 1100 points in the Ride, which has given them an 18 second lead for the Combined Event. Ireland’s Natalya Coyle and Eanna Bailey, the only athlete in Men’s Final to achieve the perfect 1200 points, scored 1116 and this moved them up to 2nd place behind the Hungarians.

Hungarians Gyenesei and Marosi fastest in the pool

The Hungarian team of Leila Gyenesei and Adam Marosi were the fastest in the pool in a very quick time of 1:57.59, over 3 seconds faster than Natalie Dianova and Jan Kuf from the Czech Republic who were 2nd fastest with 2:01.32. The Hungarians now top the leader board after two events. Russians Donata Rimsaite and Ilia Frolov drop to 2nd place following the 7th fastest swim whilst Ireland’s duo Natalya Coyle and Eanna Bailey remain in 3rd place. China and Latvia are in 4th and 5th place respectively as the athletes head off to the ride arena

Here is Palm Springs, 14 teams are competing in the first ever World Cup Series Mixed Relay In the Fence, the Chinese pair, including new Fence World Record holder Xiaonan Zhang, were leading the table until the last rounds. Zhang and her team mate Jianli Guo were overtaken by both the Russians and Hungarians The highly experienced Donata Rimsaite and Ilia Frolov battled their way to the top to win 36 bouts against 19 defeats whilst the Hungarian duo of Leila Gyenesei and Adam Marosi took 2nd with 33 victories. Joining the Chinese in 3rd place with 31 victories are Ireland’s Natalya Coyle and Eanna Bailey and Latvians Elena Rublevska and Deniss Cerkovskis.
