News65th UIPM Congress looks to the future

The 65th Annual UIPM Modern Pentathlon Congress, which took place in Limassol, Cyprus, this weekend, saw delegates from almost 50 countries present as the nations planned towards the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The Executive Board also got together in the two days prior to the Congress.

Held in the south eastern city of Lugansk this weekend, the National Ukrainian Championships for Juniors and Youth category A, B and C demonstrated the strength in depth of the modern pentathlon powerhouse. Keen to follow in the footsteps of Viktoria Tereshuk, Ganna Buryak and Pavlo Tymoshchenko, the athletes showed great skill, character and a will to win that ensured the competition set new standard.
Sondos Tarek and Sherif Nazier win African YOG Nanjing 2014 qualifier

After mixed weather in the Ivorian capital Abdijan, it was Sondos Tarek of Egypt who dominated the girls draw with her 3804 points qualifying her for the 2014 Youth Olympic Games next summer in Nanjing, China. In the men’s, it was compatriot Sherif Nazier who triumphed, to also book his place for the big show.
African Youth Olympic Games Qualifier underway in Ivory Coast

With under a year to go until the2014 Youth Olympic games begin in the Chinese city of Nanjing, the YOG African Qualifying event will be the first opportunity for some of the best pentathletes on the continent to qualify for the big event next summer. Abidjan hosts the event with all the facilities within 50m walking distance from each other at the Cocodu University.
