The Coaches Committee is constantly aware of decisions and guidelines given by the Executive Board and the UIPM Committee's (in particular Technical, Business Affairs, Medical and Marketing and Media) in order to inform the coaches of changes and proposals taken into consideration.

Chairperson: Prof Fabio Pigozzi (ITA) Members: Prof. Joseph Cummiskey (IRL)Prof. Alessia Di Gianfrancesco (ITA)Prof. Paolo Borrione (ITA) Overview: If an athlete, to treat a pathological condition, requires a medication falling under the Prohibited List, a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) may give that athlete the authorization to take the medicament he needs. Any decision regarding the grant, withdrawal, denial and recognition of TUE’s are taken by the UIPM Therapeutic Use Exemption Committee (TUEC). The TUEC is composed by at least 3 physicians with experience in the care and treatment of athletes and a recognized knowledge of clinical, sports and exercise medicine. The TUEC may seek whatever medical or scientific expertise it deems appropriate in reviewing the circumstances of any application for a TUE. A Therapeutic Use Exemption will be granted only in strict accordance with the following criteria: 1. The athlete should submit an application for a TUE on a form provided by the UIPM. 2. The athlete would experience a significant impairment to health if the Prohibited Substance or Prohibited Method were to be withheld in the course of treating an acute or chronic medical condition. 3. The therapeutic use of the Prohibited Substance or Prohibited Method would produce no additional enhancement of performance other than that which might be anticipated by a return to a state of normal health following the treatment of a legitimate medical condition. 4. There would be no reasonable therapeutic alternative to the Use of the otherwise Prohibited Substance or Prohibited Method.

Specifically with regard to the application of UIPM Medical Rules at UIPM competitions, with special emphasis on: Prevention of any illness and injury Medical assistance in competition, with special attention to environmental conditions influencing the athletes’ health and safety Nutritional care in sports events Veterinarian care of horses In addition the committee strives to support the scientific and medical in-depth investigation of biological, and physiological topics related to Modern Pentathlon. For the prevention and education of sports participants, the committee further works to improve the study of problems connected to the phenomenon of doping, and provides supervision and management of doping controls in and out-of-competition, with and without the assistance of WADA.
Adam Marosi dominant as he claims European title

After starting the day by sharing top spot in the fence after 24 winning bouts, Hungary’s World No.1 Adam Marosi was the man in charge in the European Championships Final as the 28-year never relinquished his lead all day as he crossed the combined event finish line first to take gold and the title of European Champion.

Petroni claims Group ‘A’ top spot after combined event

After winning the swim earlier today, Italy’s Pierpaolo Petroni ensured he finished the day ahead of his rivals with a haul of 4444 points in the Men’s Qualification Group ‘A’. The 25-year-old will now have high hopes of finishing on the podium in Saturday’s Final.

After winning 25 of his bouts in the Men’s Qualification Group ‘A’, Pierpaolo Petroni found himself top of the leader board going into the afternoon swim. His 1000 points should now stand him in good stead to qualify for the Final this Saturday.

The 4th Winter Pentathlon was held in Helsinki in extreme cold weather, on the morning of the 19 January where the temperature was -29 Celsius as the brave participants started the giant slalom.
