The Hungarian modern pentathlete won three gold and two silver Olympic medals in the 1960s and 1970s Last summer, I returned to the ‘Eternal City’ of Rome, a half-century after the 1960 Olympic Games. Back then I was a 22-year-old rookie and I had a bad start to my first Games – I had hardly begun the riding when I fell. There was a lot of pain in my right shoulder and I could barely raise my arm to shoot. However, I bounced back and won the swimming competition, and had a legitimate shot at the podium if I could turn in a great running leg.
