Group B After Swim and Fence

Lowly ranked Tomas Makarovas (LTU) has stunned the rest of the field by winning the fencing competition in Group B. He beat some of the biggest names in the sport including Double Olympic Champion Andrei Moiseev (RUS), World #2 David Svoboda (CZE) and World #3 Ondrej Polivka (CZE) who had a very disappointing fence to finish in 14th. Makarovas strong fence means he will have a 5 second lead over Combined Event expert Federico Giancamilli (ITA) with Moiseev being a further 20 seconds back. Polivka will have to come from 14th position in attempt to get into the top 9 and qualify for Sunday’s Final.

Group C Swim

Amro El Geziry (EGY) has shown the rest of the field how to swim with a blitzing time of 2.00.28 in Group C. He was Over 2 seconds ahead of his nearest rival Màté Telek (HUN). World #4 Edvinas Krungolcas (LTU) was well off the pace in 20th position, World #9 Dymtro Kirpulyanskyy (UKR) had more luck finishing in 9th position.

Group A After Fence and Swim

Dimitrios Motsios (GRE) set the pool alight with a quick swim in Group A. Motsios Swam 2:04.33 which was enough to beat Bruno Merle (FRA). However these strong swims still left them 19th and 22nd respectively after poor fences. Pavlo Kirpulyanskyy (UKR) still leads the field with Andrejus Zadneprovskis (LTU) and Adam Marosi (HUN) being well placed in 3rd and 4th going into the combined event.

Group B Swimming

Tomoya Miguchi (JPN) has touched out Omar El Geziry (EGY) in Group B’s Swimming event in a time of 2:02,22. Double Olympic Champion Andrei Moiseev (RUS) had a solid swim returning from injury finishing in 5th place with 2009 European Champion Ondrej Polivka (CZE) having some work to do to qualify for the final finishing down in 14th position.

Group A Fencing

Fencing supremo Pavlo Kirpulyanskyy (UKR) has won the fencing in Group A with 19 victories and only 5 defeats. This was a massive 5 victories ahead of World #1 Adam Marosi and 2000 World Champion and Olympic Silver medallist Andrejus Zadneprovskis (LTU) who is competing in his first event after injury from World Cup #1.

Caze Win's Group B

Double World Champion Amelie Caze has continued her impressive form from World Cup #3 by blitzing the field to win Group B which underlined her favourite status for Saturday’s Final. Caze’s 1st position in the fencing and 2nd place in the swimming ensured she had no pressure going into the Combined Event which she completed with her trademark calmness. As was the case in Group A, all the favourites got through including World #4 Medany (EGY), Isaksen (USA) and local favourite Toth (HUN) who missed out on the final at World Cup #3.

Schoneborn Win's Group A

Olympic Champion Lena Schoneborn (GER) has shown her class to easily win Group A at World Cup #4 in Budapest Hungary. Schoneborn led from the start to finish and showed ominous form leading into the final. All the top names managed qualification into Saturday’s final including World #1 Rimsaite (LTU), Rublevska (LAT) and local hero and winner of the swimming Gyenesei (HUN).

Leila Gyenesei (HUN) has made up for her poor fence by winning the swimming disipline in Group A. This moves her up from 24th position to 12th. Although she is still 57 seconds behind the leader Lena Shoneborn (GER) who has a 3 seond lead over Lucie Grolichova (CZE). The top 18 athletes make Saturday's final.

Zsófia FÖLDHÁZI (HUN) has blitzted the field in her first World Cup by winning the swimming event by 5 seconds ahead of double World Champion Amelie Caze (FRA) in an impressive time of 2:10,75.

Olympic Champion Lena Shoneborn (GER) has had a bright start at World Cup #4 to win the fencing disipline in Group A with World #1 Donata Rimsaite (LTU) in 5th 5 wins behind. Local favorite and form athlete Leila Gyenesei (HUN) had a poor fence and finished back in 24th position and has some work to do if she is to make the top 18 to qualify for Saturday's Final.
