Shoneborn Claims Gold

Olympic Champion Lena Schoneborn has made it 3 Gold Medals out of the 5 2010 World Cups by strolling to victory at World Cup #5 in Berlin. Schoneborn powered to victory past Amelie Caze (FRA) who claimed silver and Sylvia Czwojdzinska (POL) who came from nowhere to claim Bronze.  Schoneborn said “I feel I am in the form of my life, it was fantastic to win this Gold medal in front of all my family and friends.”

Caze to Start First in the Combined

Double World Champion Amelie Caze (FRA) will start first in the Combined Event after having a solid ride. Olympic Champion thrilled the crowd by having a near perfect ride to chop down Caze’s lead and move into second, 14 seconds behind. She will be followed by current World Champion Qian Chen (CHN) who had a perfect ride to move with 4 seconds of Schoneborn. World #1 Donata Rimsaite (LTU) is in 9th position, 40 seconds off the pace which with her excellent Combined Event skills will make her a threat for a podium position.

Clouvel Claims the Swim

Elodie Clouvel (FRA) has again proved herself to be Pentathlon’s leading swimmer by winning the swimming discipline in the Women’s Final. Clouvel just out touched Sarlota Kovacs (HUN) who recorded a personal best after a lengthy lay off due to injury. Amelie Caze was 3rd which catapults her to the top of the leaders board ahead of fencing winner Lucie Grolichova (CZE) who finished down in 20th position. Olympic Champion Lena Schoneborn finished 8th in the swim which has brought her up to 3rd position overall.

Lucie Grolichova (CZE) lead from start to finish to claim the fencing honours at the Women’s Final with 27 victories and 8 defeats. She was pushed all the way by Double World Champion Amelie Caze (FRA) who was one victory behind. Current World Champion Qian Chen (CHN) who has just returned from injury put in a solid performance to finish in 3rd place equal with Olympic Champion Lena Schoneborn (GER). World #1 Donata Rimsaite has a disappointing fence finishing in 11th position 11 behind the leader.

Lucie Grolichova (CZE) has continued her strong fencing form after 21 rounds to have 18 victories and only 3 defeats. She leads Lena Schoneborn (GER) by 2 victories with Amelie Caze and Donata Rimsaite a further 2 victories behind, in a strong position.

Lucie Grolichova (CZE) has had an amazing start to the fencing competition only losing one of her first 11 bouts. Olympic Champion Lena Schoneborn (GER) is 3 victories behind with events favourites Amelie Caze (FRA) and Donata Rimsaite (LTU) a further 1 and 2 victories behind respectively.

Welcome to another perfect sunny day from Germany, Berlin for World Cup #5. The Women are getting ready to go head to head in the quest for Gold and qualification for the World Cup Final later this month in Moscow. Local Hero and Olympic Champion Lena Schoneborn will be the crowds favourite for victory and they might get their wish as Schoneborn showed devastating in her qualification group to easily win. Schoneborn will be looking to make it 3 Gold medals from the 5 2010 World Cups to cement her spot on top of the Women's field.

However she will be pushed all the way by current World #1 Donata Rimsaite (LTU) and Double World Champion Amelie Caze (FRA) who looked equally impressive during qualifying.

Berlin, Germany: 5 June 2010 – Iilia Frolov (RUS) has re discovered the form that won him the 2008 World Championships by claiming Gold at World Cup #5 in Berlin Germany. Frolov won the sprint to the finish ahead of Justinas Kinderis (LTU) and Riccardo De Luca (ITA) who claimed Silver and Bronze respectively. Frolov said ‘It feels fantastic to get back on the podium after a disappointing season so far’.

There has been a massive shock in the riding event where the top athlete and raging favourite Aleksander Lesun (RUS)  has had a riding disaster only scoring 772 points which drops him down to 25th position. 2nd placed Andrejus Zadneprovskis (LTU) also had a terrible ride which dropped him down to 8th position, however he is only 8 seconds behind leaders Nal Dong-hong (KOR) who only dropped 40 points in the ride to jump up the leaders board and 2008 World Champion Iilia Frolov (RUS). The Combined Event is set to be a cracker with the top 11 athletes only separated by 13 seconds.

Kim Claims Swim

Soengjin Kim (KOR) has produced a personal best display to win the swimming event in the World Cup Final in Berlin. Kim swam 2:01.82 which was over a second faster than Andrejus Zadneprovskis (LTU) and Bruno Merle (FRA) in second and third respectively. The fencing winner Aleksander Lesun (RUS) was back in 10th position, however this was good enough to keep his commanding lead at the top of the ladder. Zadneprovskis’s second position in the swimming and his fourth place in the fencing has earned him second position going into the ride.
