Frolov, Karyakin & Kinderis Fail to Qualify from Group C
Friday, 06 May 2011 17:43World Champion Serguei Karyakin (RUS) World #4 Ilia Frolov (RUS) and World #5 Justinas Kinderis (LTU) have shocked everyone and failed to qualify from group C. They all had a terrible combined event to finish outside the top 12, which portrays just how strong this competition is. The Hungarian pair of Robert Kaza and Junior World Champion Bence Demeter looked the most impressive from the group in the delight of the local crowd. Nick Woodbridge capped off a successful qualification day for the British team with 3 out of the 4 boys qualifying, better than World Cup #2 where they failed to qualify one.

All Big Names Qualify in Group B
Friday, 06 May 2011 17:09World Cup #1 Champion Pavlo Tymoshchenko (UKR) has won group B and all the top ranked athletes qualifying easily. The Czech pair of Ondrej Polivka and David Svoboda looked to be in cruise control during the combined event and will be hard to beat on Saturday. Sam Weale (GBR) made up for a poor showing at World Cup #2 where he failed to make the final by showing his class to cruise into the top 12. Despite starting the combined event in 1st position Omar El Geziry struggled in the shooting to fall back to 16th position and out of final qualification positions.

Marosi Win's Group A, Moiseev Crashes Out
Friday, 06 May 2011 15:21World #2 Adam Marosi (HUN) has maintained his superb form from the last World Cup to easily win Group A. Marosi led from start to finish ahead of Choon-Huan Lee (KOR) and Kelvin Hilgeholt (NED) who has qualified for a rare final. Swimming speedster Jamie Cooke (GBR) who usually struggles in the combined event was in top form and finished 4th. The top Italian pair of Nicola Benedetti and Ricardo De Luca made their way up the field to finish in the top 12 as did Pavlo Kirpulyanskyy (UKR). Double Olympic Champion Andrei Moiseev (RUS) again struggled with the combined and failed to repeat his final making appearance from World Cup #2 and crashed out.
Hwang Win's Fencing in Group B
Friday, 06 May 2011 13:16Woojin Hwang (KOR) has won the fencing to move up to 2nd in Group B ahead of the Combined Event. Hwang scored 24 victories and 10 defeats 1 ahead of Omar El Geziry who will now have a 3 second lead at the start of the combined event over Hwang. Ondrej Polivka (CZE) will start 3rd 10 seconds behind El Geziry which is by far his best performance of the season so far., Sam Weale (GBR) is a further 2 seconds back and World #3 David Svoboda (CZE) 15 seconds.

Cooke Wins Swim but Marosi Starts First in Combined in Group A
Friday, 06 May 2011 12:26James Cooke (GBR) has won the swimming discipline in group A by 3 seconds to move up the leaders board into 8th position. Adam Marosi had a solid swim to head the group after 2 events and will have a 4 second lead going into the combined event over Amro El Geziry who came 2nd in the swim. The winner of the fencing Choon-Huan Lee (KOR) will start a further 12 seconds back. Double Olympic Champion Andrei Moiseev, who’s combined event is his weakest will start in 4th position a massive 33 seconds behind Marosi.
The 2 top 10 ranked Italians Nicola Benedetti and Ricardo De Luca who are down in 14th and 15th place respectively and will have to have a quick combined event to move into the top 12.
Takayuki Beats Golis in Swim in Group C
Friday, 06 May 2011 11:11Takayuki Imoto (JPN) has done what not many other men can’t which is beat Remigiusz Golis (POL) in the swimming event in Group C in a time of 2:00,09. Back in 3rd was Nick Woodbridge (GBR) ahead of Robert Kaza in 4th. The Russian pair of current World Champion Serguei Karyakin and 2008 World Champion Ilia Frolov are well positioned being in 9th and 10th respectively. World #5 Justinas Kinderis (LTU) is struggling back in 18th position and will have to have a strong fencing event to ensure his qualification.
Lee Tops Group A in Fencing
Friday, 06 May 2011 10:02Choon-Huan Lee (KOR) has produced a commanding performance in Group A to win the fencing over event favourite Adam Marosi (HUN) with 25 victories and only 8 defeats.
Swimming speedster Amro El Geziry finished 3 victories behind the Korean and a fast swim will ensure he will start first in the Combined Event. Denis Cerkovskis (LAT) and Kelvin Hilgeholt (NED) were a further victory back and will be liking their chances of qualification.
Double Olympic Champion Andrei Moiseev is left with some work to do finishing 5 victories off the pace down in 6th position.
Franceschini Win's Swim in Group B
Friday, 06 May 2011 09:22Auro Franceschini (ITA) has won the swimming in group B in a fast time of 2:02 seconds. He just beat Omar El Geziry (EGY) and Luis Magno (BRA). The strong Czech pair of David Svoboda and Ondrej Polivka are in strong positions 5th and 9th respectively. World Cup #1 Champion Pavlo Tymoshchenko is struggling back in 22nd position.

Men's Qualification Preview - Marosi Looking to Fire
Thursday, 05 May 2011 19:55With World #1 Aleksander Lesun withdrawing from the event there is a long line of men lining up to take his place as World’s best. Tomorrow there will be 104 men lining up to take the 36 final places on offer. This means there will be 3 groups of men, so they will have to squeeze into the top 12 in order to compete for a medal come Sunday.
