Women's Qualification Review

Thursday, 05 May 2011 18:40

Donata Rimsaite (RUS) just scraped into the Women’s final after a disappointing performance today at World Cup #3. The World #2 struggled all day due to a virus and grabbed the last qualification position. She was the only one of the top pentathletes not to easily qualify for the final with the big guns of Amelie Caze (FRA), Lena Schoneborn (GER), Laura Asadauskaite (LTU), Leila Gyenesei (HUN) and Aya Medany (EGY) all strolling into the top 18 for qualification.

Lesun Withdraws from World Cup #3

Thursday, 05 May 2011 17:27

World #1 and defending champion Aleksander Lesun (RUS) has pulled out of World Cup #3 due to visa issues. Lesun‘s absence will give massive opportunities to some of the other men who will be looking to snatch gold here in Hungary. Lesun was looking in top form at World Cup #2 and grabbed silver, and the local crowd will miss his presence. Lesun will be the only member of the top 10 who won't be lining up for the Men's qualification tomorrow. Stay tuned for all the live action from the Men’s Qualification here on Pentathlon.org tomorrow.

World #2 Donata Rimsaite (RUS) has scrapped into Saturday’s final by finishing in 18th position in Group A. Rimsaite who has struggled to shake off a virus has been a shade of her usual dominate self all through the day and will be glad just to get into the final. Apart from Rimsaite all the other top women made it through with relative ease such as Amelie Caze (FRA), former World #1 Laura Asadauskaite (LTU) and World #5 Yane Marques (BRA).

Silver Medallist from World Cup #2 Anastasiya Propkopenko (BLR) showed her blistering combined event that got her silver in Italy was no fluke as she again flew the field after starting 21st and ended up finishing an amazing 2nd. Only Sarolta Kovacs made it through for the locals as 3 other Hungarians failed to make the top 18.
