Juan Antonio Samaranch Jr (ESP)

Mr Samaranch has held the position of First Vice President since 1996 and has been a member of the UIPM Board since 1984. Mr Samaranch is a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Spanish Olympic Committee.
Mr Samaranch has extensive professional experience in the financial sector and is the Chief Executive Office and Founding Partner of GBS Finanzas,SA. He also has several Directorships in a range of organizations.

John Helmick (USA)
Vice President for Business Affairs
Mr Helmick is a current Vice President holding this position since 2000. Mr Helmick has been involved in Modern Pentathlon first as an athlete competing from 1976-1982 then in various roles within UIPM since 1993. He is also the chair for the Business Affairs Committee providing invaluable experience in UIPM relationships with sponsors and event hospitality.
Professionally, Mr Helmick is Chief Executive Officer of a property refurbishment and sales company and currently sits in the Board of Directors of several companies.

Kui-Sung Choi (KOR)
2nd Vice President
Mr. Choi is a current UIPM Vice President holding this position since 1996. He has been a Member of the Executive board since 1984, when Pentathlon and Biathlon where one.
Mr. Choi is also Vice-President of the Korean Modern Pentathlon Federation and the founder and current Secretary General of the Asian Modern Pentathlon and Biathlon Confederation.
He competed in the Modern Pentathlon competition at the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Ivar Sisniega (MEX)
3rd Vice President
Mr Sisniega is a current Vice President. As a former pentathlete, Mr. Sisniega competed in three consecutive Olympic Games (80, 84, 88) achieving best individual rank (7th), and best team result (5th) at Los Angeles in 1984, and was Pan American Champion in 1990. Mr Sisniega also competed at the National level in swimming, fencing and triathlon.
Mr Sisniega has extensive professional experience in the Sports industry, serving as Minister of Sport in Mexico from 1994-2000 and President of Guadalajara Football Club 2003-2006. Currently, he is the Director for Sports and International Relations Guadalajara 2011 Pan American Games.

Gyula Bretz (HUN)
Treasurer
Mr Bretz is the current treasurer, having held this position since 2000. Prior to this Mr Bretz has acted as an Honorary auditor for UIPM since 1992. Formerly a pentathlete, Mr Bretz competed from 1955-1966 and at an international level for the Hungarian pentathlon team from 1960-1965. He is still actively involved in pentathlon administration in Hungary and is chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Hungarian Modern Pentathlon.
Currently, Mr Bretz is President - Director General of UVATERV Engineering Consultants C.C. Ltd. and President of the Association of Hungarian Consulting Engineers and Architects.

Joel Bouzou (FRA)
Secretary General
Mr. Bouzou was appointed Secretary General in 1997. He is a highly accomplished and respected Pentathlete having competed in 4 consecutive Olympic Games (1980, 84, 88, 92) receiving a bronze medal in the 84 teams event, and was crowned Modern Pentathlon World Champion in 1987.
Mr. Bouzou holds a Diploma in Sports Law and Economics from the University of Limoges (FRA). He is President of Rassemblement Par le Sport (RPS), was elected to the Executive Board of the World Olympian Association (WOA) in December 2003 where he has the position of Treasurer, and is the current Sports Advisor for HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco.

Mauro Tirinnanzi (ITA)

Mr Tirinnanzi is UIPM Executive Board Member for Sport, having been elected in 2004. He has been a member of the UIPM Technical Committee since 1988. Mr Tirinnanzi has had a long involvement with the Italian Olympic Committee working particularly with Modern Pentathlon and Sailing. He has attended seven Olympic Games in roles such as Head Coach - Modern Pentathlon (Gold- individual, team and relay in 1984), Team Coordinator and more recently as technical delegate for UIPM.

Professor Fabio Pigozzi is the Chairman of the Medical Committee having been elected in 1996, with the Medical Committee being incorporated in to the Executive Board in 2008. Prof. Pigozzi has a degree is Medical Sciences and specialises in Cardiology and Sports Science. Prof. Pigozzi has held several high profile Sport Science positions at leading Universities and has written over 200 scientific publications. Prof. Pigozzi is also a member of the IOC Medical Commission and the Health Medical and Research Committee of WADA amongst other notable positions.

Mrs. Svarre is the Executive Board Member for Media and Editor of the UIPM Magazine and annual Media Guide.
An outstanding sportswoman, Mrs. Svarre is an Olympian, Modern Pentathlon World Champion (2000) and has been a member of four different national teams (Modern Pentathlon, Triathlon, Athletics, Fencing)
Mrs. Svarre’s formal education is in Business Relations and is self employed in the area of Human Resources and Personal Training.

Miss Harland is an Executive Board Member and Chairman of the Athletes Committee.
Georgina Harland is a successful modern pentathlete, competing for 10 years at the international level. The highlight of her career to date was winning bronze at the Olympic Games Athens 2004.

Sameh Guemeih (EGY)
Executive Board Member - President Africa Confederation
Mr. Guemeih is a current Executive Board Member and President of the African Confederation of Modern Pentathlon since 1993.
Mr. Guemeih was an accomplished equestrian athlete achieving many national awards. He also competed as an athlete in Egypt’s first National Team and retired in 1979. From this he began his administrative role with the Egyptian Federation of Modern Pentathlon.
Retiring from the Egyptian Armed Forces in 1981, Mr Guemeih has been involved in private enterprise since.

Dmitry SVATKOVSKY (RUS)
Executive Board Member - President European Confederation
Mr. Svatkovsky is a current UIPM Executive Board Member and President of the European Confederation of Modern Pentathlon.
Mr Svatkovsky is an accomplished Modern Pentathlete, holding many titles, most importantly he was the Olympic Champion at the Sydney 2000 Games. At present, he is the Minister of Investment Policy of Nizhny Novgorod ( the Russian Federation).

John G Pennell (AUS)
Executive Board Member - President Oceania Confederation
Mr. Pennell is a current Executive Board Member and President of the Oceania Confederation of Modern Pentathlon.
His involvement in Pentathlon began in 1953 and from that time he has performed many tasks for various organizations including President of Victorian Pentathlon and in 1978 was appointed Vice-President for Oceania. His involvement also included the running of the 1985 Modern Pentathlon World Championships held in Australia, and the 2002 World Junior Championships
Mr. Pennell also played a significant role during the Modern Pentathlon competition of the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney. He is also a recipient of the distinguished Order of Australia Medal.

John F Holland (USA)
Executive Board Member - President NORCECA Confederation
Mr. Holland is a current UIPM Executive Board Member and President of the NORCECA Confederation of Modern Pentathlon.
He was a member of the 1956 US Olympic Modern Pentathlon Team as a second alternate, as well as being a member of the Modern Pentathlon Epée Team that won the 1959 US National Fencing Championships. Mr. Holland continued competing into the Masters Age group and received the silver medal at the 1992 US Masters (Old Boy) Modern Pentathlon Championships.
Other involvement in the administration of Modern Pentathlon includes acting as an advisor to the Mexican Federation (71-74), Member of the USA Modern Pentathlon Association (76-04) and Co-Founder of the Pan American Modern Pentathlon Confederation (PAMPC) in 1987. He was President of the PAMPC from 1991 to 1995. He has been President of NORCECA since 1996.

Mr Jorge O.J. Salas (ARG)
Executive Board Member - President South American Confederation
Mr. Salas is a current UIPM Executive Board Member and President of the South America Modern Pentathlon Confederation (2008-2012).
He was an Olympic competitior in Biathlon, founder of Argentine Modern Pentathlon and Biathlon Federation and Co-founder of South American Modern Pentathlon Confederation. At present, he is a member of the Argentine Olympic Committee, Argentine Sport Confederation and Panathlon Buenos Aires. From 1992 he was President of Argentine Modern Pentathlon Federation.
