The beautiful city of Acapulco, on the Mexican Pacific Coast, saw the PANAM Qualification stages for the 2014 Nanjing Youth Olympic Games takes place this weekend. A great atmosphere and some incredible performances by the 58 participating athletes from the 12 represented nations ensured an impressive spectacle for all those in attendance.
The 65th Annual UIPM Modern Pentathlon Congress, which took place in Limassol, Cyprus, this weekend, saw delegates from almost 50 countries present as the nations planned towards the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The Executive Board also got together in the two days prior to the Congress.
After the passing of Hungarian legend Imre Nagy last month, the modern pentathlon family paid its respect with a special ceremony for the 1960 Olympic Games silver medallist.
The Executive Board of the Union International de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM) got together today for 2-days of talks in Limassol, on the south coast of Cyprus, as a precursor to the 2013 Congress which begins on Friday. Hosted by the Cyprus Modern Pentathlon Biathlon Federation at the Mediterranean hotel under the guidance of their President and secretary General of the National Olympic Committee General Charalambos Lottas and the team at Top Kinisis, the event is set to welcome delegates from over 40 nations.
Following a week of clean-up and hardship from the tragedy of Typhoon Hainan, locally in the Philippines known as Typhoon Yolanda, the Negros Biathle Competition was held this weekend. The event was moved from Cadiz City on the northern tip of Negros Island, which suffered major damage from the super typhoon, to Canonoy Beach Resort further south and further away from the path which the eye of the storm took. All who took part thoroughly enjoyed the experience and were left with a big smile on their faces.
After learning of the devastating effect of the recent typhoon in the Philippines, John Amabile of the organising committee of the 2014 World Cup Final, travelled to Balabag on the Negros Island on behalf of UIPM to bring food to those affected by the disaster. Typhoon Haiyan has left four million children desperate for food, clean water and shelter.
The South American Modern Pentathlon Championships held in Chile this weekend at the Military Academy in Santiago saw Argentina’s Ayelen Zapata triumph in the Senior women’s draw before claiming a second gold by teaming up with Emanuel Zapata to take the Mixed Relay title.
With 20 nations in attendance, the event at the Manchester Conference Centre over the weekend 8-10 November was a truly international affair with delegates from France, Germany, Turkey and beyond.
