Korean athletes dominate 2024 Asian Championships as new Confederation President is elected

Athletes from 11 nations took part in the 2024 Asian Championships, run by the Asian Modern Pentathlon Confederation (AMPC) in Hwaseong (KOR) with the Obstacle discipline making its debut.

A new generation of Korea athletes showed their versatility by mastering the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic format to win a slew of medals. Yoobin Kim (KOR), 21, won the Men’s Individual gold with 17-year-old Sumin Shin (KOR) claiming the Women’s Individual title.

The Mixed Relay and Team honours also went to the host nation, with China, Kazakhstan and Japan also enjoying podium success across the categories. The Asian Under 19 Championships was also held in parallel to the senior event.

The AMPC Congress, held during the Championships, elected Hanjoon Lee (KOR) as its new President with Katsumi Yamazaki (JPN) and Dr Huda Almatrooshi (UAE) becoming new Vice Presidents alongside re-elected duo Valerii Novikov (KGZ) and Cassandra Choh (SGP). Viktor Maltsev (KGZ) was elected as Technical Director.
