UIPM 2024 Pentathlon World Cup Cairo: Men’s Qualification

UIPM 2024 Pentathlon World Cup Cairo continued today with an exciting Men’s Qualification round where 90 competitors, including the biggest names in the sport, went toe to toe.



Among the leading lights who progressed safely to Friday’s Semi-final were reigning Olympic gold medalist Joseph Choong of Great Britain, home favourite and current World No.1 Mohanad Shaban of Egypt, World No.3 Emiliano Hernandez of Mexico and Hungarian livewire Csaba Bohm.



With three groups of 30 athletes each, things got underway with Korean superstar Changwan Seo, the World No.7, leading home Qualification Group A ahead of Christopher Patte (FRA) and the Egyptian duo of Mohamed Elgendy and Shaban (EGY).



The top performers in Qualification Group B were veteran Jan Kuf (CZE), the 2015 UIPM World Champion, finishing ahead of Jean-Baptiste Mourcia (FRA) and Maruk Maksim (AIN). There was drama when Tokyo Olympic silver medalist Ahmed Elgendy (EGY) gave home supporters some brief stress before clinching the 12th and final qualification spot.



In the day’s final gathering, Qualification Group C, the pedigree again rose to the top with Germany’s World No.11 Marvin Faly Dogue crossing the line in step with Hernandez (MEX). Just behind that duo were Shuai Luo (CHN), Charles Brown (GBR) and Patrick Dogue (GER).



Pentathlon World Cup Cairo continues tomorrow (March 7) with the Women’s Semi-final followed by the Men’s Semi-final Friday, the Finals on March 9 and concludes with the Mixed Relay on March 10.
