Over 319 international athletes from 24 different countries have already confirmed their participation and will be descending to the shores of Dubai from 01 to 03 November 2012. This prestigious event is sanctioned by the Dubai Sports Council as well as The Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM), which is recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as the world governing body for the sport of Modern Pentathlon and Biathle. The event is also supported by Peace and Sport Organziation.

The UIPM is represented in the Middle East by Mihail Kouzev, who explains the event as follows “The BIATHLE race begins with a pack start of runners who complete one-half of the total running distance before entering a 50 meter transition area. Athletes then dive into the water and swim the required swimming distance before exiting the water, putting on their shoes and running the second leg of the run to the finish line. Juniors will run from between 500m and 1000m, then swim between 50 and 100m and then finish the race with the same running distance.

Adults run either 1km or 1.5km, swim 100 or 200m and conclude with the same running distance again. The primary objective of the UIPM Biathle Wold Championship Dubai 2012 is  to show the World that Dubai and especially the Dubai Sports Council are encouraging the growth of new sports, by promoting the sport and making it sustainable and viable prospect for all people and especially the youth.” – he added.

SUPER SPORTS Event Management Services, a Dubai based company specialising in local sporting events, will assist in organizing and promoting the event on behalf of the UIPM. “We are excited about this event once again and know that the 300+ international athletes, their coaches and managers, family and supporters are looking forward to coming to Dubai. The UAE will also be represented by 36 residents who qualified through the UAE Biathle event staged earlier in the month and this may be a once in a lifetime opportunity for them to compete on the International stage against many different nationalities.

We invite all residents to come down and support them throughout the day.  There will also be other UAE based residents competing for their home countries which pushes the total of UAE residents to over 50 competing in these Championships” commented race organizer Warren van der Merwe, Managing Director of Super Sports. “A lot of planning with Le Meridien Mina Seyahi and DIMC has been done as well as with the respective international Federations, so we are looking forward to all of this coming together over the race weekend and hope everyone associated with the event will have a memorable experience – especially the athletes” he added.
