On Sunday, 5 September, 2010 I couldn’t relax because I started in the Mixed Relay with my friend Remek Golis. I was very tired because the day before I had finished my individual start, but very happy that I could try that new kind of modern pentathlon. We had been inquired about the previous evening and that was the first time when we started together.
The 2010 World Championships have now come to an end. The athletes, officials, volunteers, spectators will never forget these 50th World Championships held in the brand new state of the art Pierre de Coubertin facilities in Chengdu, China. The 1st ever World Championships held in Asia!
Russia have put in a Modern Pentathlon master class to blow away the field and be crowned Women’s Relay World Champions today at Pierre de Coubertin Modern Pentathlon Centre in Chengdu, China. The French team were a distant second 40 seconds behind as they just edged out China for the Silver Medal.
The Russian team of Polina STRUCHTKOVA, Evdokia GRETCHICHNIKOVA and Ekaterina KHURASKINA have a commanding 51 seconds lead going into the Combined Event. France will start second and China 3rd a massive 1 minute 18 seconds ahead of the host country China. Medal hopes Hungary have dropped down to last place due to a poor ride.
Hungary just won the swimming discipline in the Women’s Relay over a fast finishing French team. This moves them up to 3rd after their 4th position in the fencing behind France and the Russian team who easily lead the event after their strong fencing display combined with their 5th place in the swimming event.
The French team gained one position moving up to second place after the close finish with Hungary. French coach Christian Roudaut does not want to speak to soon about a second Women's Team Gold medal at this year's World Championships.
"Please don't ask me about a medal today, I would not like to say. Fencing was good. Hungary just beat us on the swim, but we are happy. The horses are very important and will make all the difference, but we still have the very long combined event with 6000 metres to run and of course the shooting. Fatigue will definitely be a factor for all the girls today."

Russia have won the fencing by an extraordinary 14 victories in the Women’s Relay at the World Championships with 45 Victories and only 9 Defeats. China was in a distant second, followed by France and Hungary.

10 teams are competing today to become Women’s Relay World Champions at Pierre de Coubertin Modern Pentathlon Centre in Chengdu, China. France which includes World Champion Amelie Caze and also won the teams event will be the favourites to take more Gold home. However they have a lot of strong teams to contend with, including Olympic Champion Lena Schoneborn’s Germany, Great Britain and Hungary. Follow all the live updates here at Pentathlon.org.
Dr h.c. Klaus Schormann UIPM President is thrilled at the brand new Pierre de Coubertin Modern Pentathlon Centre in Chengdu and to mark the 50th anniversary of the World Championships, a tree planting ceremony was held on 6th September 2010. Schormann first started the idea in 1998 placing a plaque alongside the first planted tree in Hungary. The tradition has since been continued and Chengdu's addition is tenth in an impressive list of locations including the Olympic Museum in Lausanne planted by Schormann and the late former IOC president Juan Antonio Samaranch.
Belarus have beat a strong field to become Men’s Relay World Champions today at Pierre de Coubertin Modern Pentathlon Centre in Chengdu, China.
The Belarus team of Mikhail Mitsyk, Mihail Propkopenko and Dzmitry Meliakh held off a spirited Korean team made up of Hwonho Jung, Dong-Hun Nam and Soengjin Kim who overcame a 10 second penalty in the Combined Event to grab Silver and a star studded Russian team made up of double Olympic Champion Andrei Moiseev, 2008 World Champion Ilia Frolov and Silver medallist from the individual event Aleksander Lesun who had to settle for Bronze.
After a solid riding display, the Great Britain team which is made up of Nick Woodbridge, Sam Weale and Jamie Cooke will start first in the Combined Event. Belarus will be only 4 seconds behind with Russia being 12. The leaders of the event going into the ride Lithuania were deducted 40 points due to riding in an incorrect order and have dropped back to 7th position 26 seconds back from Great Britain.
The Combined Event will be a close one with only 43 seconds between the top 12 counties, so anything can happen.
