Your inspiration while competing: My mantra is : be the best
Your strongest discipline: equestrian, running, shooting
Your biggest rival while competing: Starostin, Masala, Yagorasvhili, Mizer
what was the "key factor" which let you win the gold medal: Discipline, precision and attention to detail
How your life (sport and private life) change like after becoming world champion?
Becoming a public figure means that you must be available to meet with any one who recognizes your merits.
What do you remember from the championships: crowd, weather, memorable moments, hospitality, facilities etc (paint a picture of what the championships were like back then): My victory was very unusual, because it was rewarded 4 months after the competition, when the first place winner was disqualified (doping),, so i missed the celebration that took place after the WCH, however i had a great time celebrating first place with my team
How the sport has changed?
MP has changed a lot. Having the competition in only one day means that you lose all of the excitement and suspence. When everything is in one day you don’t have the time to process the importance of the ranking for each event How do you think you would stand competing against the current crop of athletes in the current format? Since the change of the scoring guide lines in fencing, it is not so important whether you win or lose the event because the difference in points between first and last place is very small. For me that could be an advantage because fencing is not my strongest event.
Current life (involved in sport or not? If not what is he/she doing?): I continue my training by competing every month in riding and jumping events at national level
In your opinion who could get into the „hall of fame” of MP and why/for what reason? The athelete who has won several wch. Being the winner is difficulte be cause it makes you a target for all the other competitors
Tell us a bit about your family: I’m married, i have two children: Giulia (24 yo) and Claudio (15 yo). I praticse medicine. I’m an osteopath and sport phjsician
Are you still involved in mp and if so what capacity?
I don’t have any relation with MP federation any more
who is going to win the 50th wch in chengdu? “the best”
