My position now is clear I am #2 in the world. I am now one of the hottest property’s in Chengdu and am expected to win. And I feel that I am as well. It is always hard to explain to the Czech media that pentathlon is something special and you never really know what is going to happen. I think it is Important for me that I win a medal here. But in saying that I will be happy with top 5 I will still be able to say that I am successful. However after 2 silver medals at the last 2 World Championships I really wish to be first.
How you feeling ahead the World Championships??
My training and preparation was perfect. No problems, no health problems at all. I am 100 % ready and I am really ready, but being prepared can not make you fully ready. I have to show on Friday that I am able to win, being prepared is not everything.
What have you done in the lead up to the event?
No training camps, nothing special. Just patience preparation with my coaches in Prague, I had some competitions in fencing and in riding. That is all!
What do you think the new venue?
It is huge and beautiful. I never expected that it is possible to have venues like this for modern pentathlon ever. But in China anything is possible. I hope this venue gets filled and there is a lot of interest.
Who do you think are the biggest rivals for Gold.
There are more people than usual, there is more than 10 people. Adam Marosi (HUN) of course, The Russians, Stefan Kollner (GER), Sam Weale (GBR). Maybe someone from that Italian team? Edvinas Krungolcas (LTU), Maybe someone new??
What will be the defining factor for you to win?
The special disipline is the riding. At the 2008 Olympics I had a big fall. Everyone in the Czech Republic keeps mentioning my fall at the Olympics so its putting pressure but I am not thinking about it. I really want to not fall otherwise I will be known as the faller!
Have you done anything different in your preparation?
I have been sky diving which is new in my preparation. If you have problems you don’t think about it when you are jumping from the plane. This allows me to forget about my problems and relax. I was jumping very much before this competition.
Do you think the combined event helps you?
No, I don’t think the combined event helps me because I was at the top already before it came in. It did not help me because the gap between the top guys is less now.
How will you do celebrate if you win?
Back at home I need to do a lot of work at University. I am looking forward to holidays at the beach. Celebrating will be long with many people. After winning the European Championships there was no chance to celebrate as I was straight back into training for these championships.
Do you think you need to win to prove yourself?
For sure I need to as I have not done it before.
I wont consider my career successful before I win everything.
How highly due to you rank the winning the relay?
Medal is like a victory, I am very happy to get a medal of any colour in any event.
What were your goals at the start of the 2010?
Plan was to win some medal in the individual but if not win a medal in the teams event at a major Championships. 2010 was my breakthrough year as I won gold in the Mexican World Cup, European Championships and CISM, these were my first gold medals in individual competitions. There was only one event this year which way Medway where I didn’t get a medal.
So more of the same in 2011?
2011 is a big year due to the qualification to the Olympic Games in London. This is one of my biggest targets to be successful there.
