Khuraskina Wins Fencing in Group A
Thursday, 14 April 2011 11:01Ekaterina Khuraskina (RUS) has won the Fencing from Group B ahead of Tania Barakova (BUL) with 21 victories and only 5 defeats. Olympic Champion Lena Schoneborn (GER) is in a comfortable position 3 victories behind in 3rd position together with young American Margaux Isaksen (USA) and swimming sensation Elodie Clovel (FRA) who will shoot up the leader board after the swimming event.

Gyenesei Dominates Swim in Group C
Thursday, 14 April 2011 10:33World #4 Leila Gyenesei (HUN) has recorded an extremely fast time of 2:05,82 to win the swimming discipline in Group C by a massive 6 seconds over Joanna Gomolinska (POL) and Katy Livingston (GBR). World #8 Aya Medany (EGY) competing in her first event for the year finished strongly to grab 8th position and former World #1 Laura Asadauskaite (LTU) had a solid swim, but is back in 17th position, however she has her best event, the Combined Event to come.

Khokhlova Win's Swim in Group B
Thursday, 14 April 2011 09:49Iryna Khokhlova (UKR) has just won the swimming in a quick time of 2:13.04 just ahead of Min Ji Choi (KOR) and 2009 World Champion Qian Chen (CHN). Silver Medalist from World Cup #1 Mhairi Spence (GBR) was back in 10th position and World #2 Donata Rimsaite struggled and is way down the field in 19th position.
As there are 3 Women’s groups, only the top 12 athletes will qualify, so all of the top athletes need to be at their best to avoid missing out on a chance to fight for gold on Saturday.
Caze Withdraws - Women's Qualification Preview
Wednesday, 13 April 2011 21:35The stage is set tomorrow for one of the great qualification days at World Cup #2 in Sassari, Italy. A record of 86 Women will be competing in 3 qualification groups which means only the top 12 athletes from each group will qualify for Saturday’s Final.
All 86 Women would have breathed a sigh of relief at the news that 3 times World Champion and gold medalist from World Cup #1 Amelie Caze (FRA) will not be competing due to precautionary measures on an injury sustained at training. Despite Caze’s absence the field is still of the highest level, headed by World #1 and Olympic Champion Lena Schoneborn (GER) and World #2 Donata Rimsaite who will be competing for the first time in Russian colours here in Italy.
World Cup #2 Begins
Wednesday, 13 April 2011 20:22World Cup #2 has started with a bang with an outstanding Opening Ceremony at Sassari, Italy. The Opening Ceremony was headlined by the famous Military Band the Brigrata Sassari who performed to the large crowd.
The World Cup was officially opened by Mayor of Sassari Gianfranco Ganau and President of the Italian Modern Pentathlon Federation Lucio Felicita who welcomed all the world’s best Pentathletes to the picturesque Sardinia region . All the athletes competing in the largest World Cup in history were marched out by the proud youth of Sassari.
Action begins tomorrow with the Women’s qualification competition beginning at 8:30am.

Friday, 08 April 2011 13:36204 athletes representing 36 countries of all five continents. It’s right in their numbers the strength of the second round of the 2011 modern pentathlon World Cup, which will take place in Sassari from the 13th to 18th of April; the big event was presented to the press the morning of the 6th at Palazzo Ducale, site of the Municipality, at the presence of many institutional civil, military and sports authorities.
