Khokhlova Win's Swim in Group B

Thursday, 14 April 2011 09:49

Iryna Khokhlova (UKR) has just won the swimming in a quick time of 2:13.04 just ahead of Min Ji Choi (KOR) and 2009 World Champion Qian Chen (CHN). Silver Medalist from World Cup #1 Mhairi Spence (GBR) was back in 10th position and World #2 Donata Rimsaite struggled and is way down the field in 19th position.

As there are 3 Women’s groups, only the top 12 athletes will qualify, so all of the top athletes need to be at their best to avoid missing out on a chance to fight for gold on Saturday.

Caze Withdraws - Women's Qualification Preview

Wednesday, 13 April 2011 21:35

The stage is set tomorrow for one of the great qualification days at World Cup #2 in Sassari, Italy. A record of 86 Women will be competing in 3 qualification groups which means only the top 12 athletes from each group will qualify for Saturday’s Final.

All 86 Women would have breathed a sigh of relief at the news that 3 times World Champion and gold medalist from World Cup #1 Amelie Caze (FRA) will not be competing due to precautionary measures on an injury sustained at training. Despite Caze’s absence the field is still of the highest level, headed by World #1 and Olympic Champion Lena Schoneborn (GER) and World #2 Donata Rimsaite who will be competing for the first time in Russian colours here in Italy.
