The British pair of Nick Woodbridge and 2010 European silver medalist Sam Weale also struggled and finished outside the top 13 to miss qualification. Pentathlon Great Britain’s Sport Director Jan Bartu mentioned: “They are both very disappointed and we were expecting a little bit more from Sam and Nick today.”
The Russian pair of double Olympic Champion Andrei Moiseev and current World Champion Serguei Karyakin will be both very relieved as they both made the final after missing out on World Cup #3. Their team mate, World #2 Aleksander Lesun (RUS) looked in fantastic form and never looked in doubt not to make the top 12 and will be hard to beat on Sunday.
Poland continued their strong year by qualifying all their men into the final. This is even more impressive as they have sent a second string team, as some of their top men have been left at home as qualification is already assured for the World Cup Final. The historically strong Modern Pentathlon nation is live and kicking!
The time spent at Pierre de Coubertin Stadium competing in the Asian Championships last week has helped immensely, as 13 Asians qualifying for Sunday’s final. 6 of these are Chinese who are benefiting from the home ground advantage and 4 are Korean’s who are showing just how much their Pentathlon has developed over the past few years. These 13 Asian athletes will like their chances to grab a dram gold on their home continent
