Youth A World Championships Cultural Day

The UIPM President accompanied by his wife, the Turkish Federation President, all athletes, team leaders, officials and judges started 9 in the morning from the hotel to go on board to cross the Vosporos Channel for the annual Youth A culture and education day. This day teaches the athletes aspects outside sport such as the country's traditions, friendship, fair play and other values that embodies the heart of the Olympic Movement.

Gold for Korea in Men's Relay

Korea capped off a fantastic Youth A World Championships by winning the gold medal in the men’s relay’s. The team of Seong, Jun & Lee were always in control of the deay and were rewarded with a place on top of the podium.

UIPM hold Judges Seminar in Turkey

Running parallel to the Youth A World Championships, a International Judges and Assistant Judges was conduced by Technical Committee Member Mr. Walid Sayed. 2 days before the Championships around 30 candidates participated this seminar. All participants were introduced to the UIPM Competition Rules in both practical and theoretical ways. This Seminar was an other step to the development of Modern Pentathlon in Turkey.

Kukarin Becomes Youth A World Champion

Mingyu Choi (KOR) held on for the silver and Jorge Camacho (MEX) repeated his bronze medal performance he produced 12 months ago at the Youth Olympic Games to claim bronze

The key to the recently turned 18 year olds victory was his dominant fencing performance. Kukarin came 2^nd in the 80 man strong field to move to 2^nd in the standings after his 13^th place in the swimming event.

This meant that Kukarin started 2^nd in the combined event behind Pavels Svecovs (LAT). Kukarin’s precision shooting and strong running meant he wrapped up the gold early and could enjoy the final 200m to bask in the glory of his World Championships victory.

Kukarin stated: “This is incredible to become World Champion, I thought it would be impossible, it was my dream to become a World Champion. The combined event is not usually my strong point, but it went so well today, I can’t believe it.”

Silver medallist Choi said: “My best performance for me was in Fencing and this was very important for me. My combined event surprised me, so I am very happy.”

Camacho, who had high hopes coming into this event after winning the senior Pan American Championships last month said: “I was very happy with my fencing performance which was my big fear. In the combined event I messed up in the 2^nd shooting as I was too stressed, and I had to adjust my shooting. I was lucky my running saved me. My expectations were higher, my goal was to win but I am still happy with 3^rd place. I will win in the future.”

Korea's strong all round performance ensured they won the team's gold medal ahead of Russia and Belarus who claimed silver and bronze respectively.
