The Youth World Champion trio of Fabian Liebig, Marvin Faly Dogue and Christian Zillekens out shoot and out ran Korea represented by Woongtae Jun, Sangyong Jun, Dongmin Chae who moved from 4^th to 2^nd in the last leg to snatch silver.

"Its amazing we are first" stated the elated German team. "We were hoping for a medal, but now we have gold and we still can not believe it. It was the best competition ever for all of us! We are good friends and we supported each other all day long. We gave our best results in all the sports and this brought us the gold medal"

Korea stated: "We are very happy, happy, happy. This is our first international competition and to win a medal was a very nice present. If our swimming would be a little better then we would have more chances to win gold because the combined went very well."

Pierre Dejardin, Brice  Loubet & Gregory Flayols must have been inspired to match their women’s team’s performance of bronze after  the moved up from 8^th position to sprint home to 3^rd.

The French team said: "We came here with higher hopes but we are also happy with the bronze medal. It was a good day for us but in all we could have done a little better!! It was a good start in this World Championships are both us and the girls wereon the podium."

But the day belonged to German’s,  who won their 1^st youth gold in recent memory. Their day started brilliantly as they topped the fencing charts winning 26 of their fencing bouts to hold a narrow lead over the Russians.

This lead was taken away from them after the swimming where they slumped to 8^th position, which moved them to 2^nd overall behind the Russian’s after 2 events. The  swimming was won by Hungary, much to the home crowd’s delight!

So, after the fence & the swim heading into the combined event, Russia held a 7 second lead over the Germans. The combined event was a tense affair with several teams hitting the front at various stages. But it was the German team that had the most stamina and poise to charge home in the last 1000m to be crowned champions.

Korea and France had to do more work to gain their medals, as they started back 19 & 54 seconds back respectively and it was not until the last 200 meters that they overtook their Russian & Belarusian teams who dropped back to 4^th & 5^th to win their silver & bronze UIPM Youth Championship medals.
