Prof Pigozzi, who secured election to the medical committee, by the congress votes on Sunday we elected by his fellow committee members to be the chair.
Prof Pigozzi brings a myriad of experience to the position as you can see from his brief bio below:
Fabio Pigozzi has been just elected as the Rector of the State University of Rome “Foro Italico” for the 2013-2019 term, where he is presently the Deputy Rector and was first Associate Professor of Internal Medicine then Full Professor and Chairman, Internal Medicine Unit, Department of Health Sciences at “Foro Italico”; Member of the Board of Directors (2009-11) and of the Technical & Scientific Committee (2011-15) of the Italian Space Agency (2009-); Member of the Health National Council (2009-); Scientific Director of the FIFA Medical Center of Excellence of Rome (2010-).
A graduate of Medical Sciences at the Rome University “La Sapienza” with specialisation in Cardiology and Sports Medicine and Honorary Doctor in Sport Science at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Prof Pigozzi has also held a number of positions in sport administration. These include: President of the International Federation of Sports Medicine (2010-); Member of the Health, Medical and Research Committee of the World Anti-Doping Agency -WADA (2008-); Chairman of the Medical Commission of the Association of the National Olympic Committees -ACNO (2005-2010); Chairman of the Medical and Scientific Commission of the European Olympic Committees-EOC (2002-2009); Secretary General of the European Federation of Sports Medicine Associations (1997-2009); Honorary President of the European Federation of Sports Medicine Associations (2010-); Head of Doping Control for the Torino 2006 Olympic Winter Games (2002-2006); Member of the Executive Board of the Italian Olympic Committee (2001-2009); Member of the IOC Medical Commission - Games Group (1999-2009); Member of the IOC Commission for Culture and Olympic Education (2008-2010).
