Due to an issue of the data flow to UIPM, the shooting statistics from the Junior World Championships were not able to be displayed as was the case at past events.

However, so you can see how your favourite athletes shot in each of the events in Poland, the detailed shooting statistics are available to be downloaded below.

Latvia has some new Pentathlon champions as Olga Sislova and Pavels Svecovs who dominated the field to win mixed relay gold at the 2012 Junior World Championships.

Valentin Belaud (FRA) has come from behind to win a dramatic Junior World Championships in Drzonkow, Poland.

Saturday, 08 September 2012 17:21

Arthur Lanigan O’Keeffe (IRL) has had a fantastic ride and scored 1160 to consolidate his place at the top of the leaders board ahead of the combined event.

Martin Bilko (CZE) has a perfect ride of 1200 to move into 2nd and will start 12 seconds behind the Irishman.

The dangerous Maksim Kustov (RUS) will start in 3rd position after knocking down 4 rails 22 seconds behind Lanigan O’Keeffe.

Youth Olympic Champion Dae Beom Kim (KOR) is back in 6th spotstarting 30 seconds behind the leader.

Defending Champion Jamie Cooke (GBR) is not out of the medals after a near perfect ride and is 48 seconds back.

Cooke stretched but still wins swim

Saturday, 08 September 2012 13:03

Jamie Cooke (GBR) has won the swim, in a relatively disappointing time of 1:58.22 which is 4 seconds outside his PB in the Junior Men’s World Championships final.

Maksim Kustov (RUS) gave Cooke a big scare comining within .30 seconds of the defending World Champion. Simon Casse (FRA) came in 3rd and Woo Jin Lee (KOR) in 4th.

Winner of the fencing Arthur Lanigan O’Keeffe (IRL)came in 6th place 4 seconds off the pace, which was enough to consolidate his position at the top of the leaders board. Kustov was rewarded with a good swim and has moved into 2nd position just ahead of Martin Bilko (CZE).

Lanigan O'Keeffe Fires to Win Fencing

Saturday, 08 September 2012 10:18

Arthur Lanigan O’Keeffe (IRL) has coped with the pressure of being one of the favourites beautifully by winning the fencing with 25V & 10D.

The Irishman was 2 victories ahead of Andrea Pucciariello (ITA) and Martin Bilko (CZE) who will be pleased of how they coped on the world biggest stage.

The dangerous French pair of Valentin Prades and Valentin Belaud are a further victory back and the superstar of the field Ilya Sugarov (RUS) is still in contention finishing just 4 victories behind O’Keeffe.

As usual defending champion Jamie Cooke (GBR) has left himself some work to do, finishing 27th, 11 victories behind the winner. However, this was exactly the same score he posted last year in the fencing before he won the championships, so don't count him out just yet.

2012 Junior World Championships Contenders: Arthur Lanigan-O'Keeffe (IRL)

As the Junior World Championships in Drzonkow, Poland on 3-9 September draws closer, UIPM interviews the top contenders for gold.

Today we speak to Arthur Lanigan-O'Keeffe who was a late inclusion into the 2012 London Olympic Game and finished 25th:

What would it mean to you to win your first junior title?

I have never won any international medal or title in my life so to win here would mean the world it would make history for my country and give me further confidence on the senior circuit next year.

How do you think competing in London helped you for this event?

Competing in London will obviously give me huge confidence in my ability but it’s the same as every competition and I must make sure not to get too cocky these athletes are very strong too.

Did you find it hard to regain motivation for the Junior World Championships?

I didn't actually find it hard to gain motivation for worlds because I only found out I was competing in the Olympics 3 weeks before the competition so all summer this has been my goal and to medal here still is, so I am very motivated.

Who do you see as your biggest threat for gold in Poland?

There is a very competitive field at this competition with a lot of top class athletes. The big names for me would be Jamie Cooke of GB, Demeter on Hungary, Bustos of Chile and there are alot of very strong French, Russians and Koreans and many more everyone making the final is strong so to do well here is very difficult indeed.

What discipline will be key for you to win?

I think the fencing is the key one here if I can fence above 900 in the final I should be a contender to win provided something else doesn't go drastically wrong.

Does competing on the senior circuit help you for these junior events and how?

I think competing on the senior circuit will really stand to me I have gained a huge amount of experience this year and I have become much more relaxed during competitions and it has showed in my results !!

What have you been focusing on the most in training leading this to the Junior World Championships?

It really hard for me to train for fencing in Ireland because leading up to the comp I have no one really to fence due to the unpopularity of the sport in my country. Therefore I am training all the disciplines evenly I am hoping this will result in a good all round performance.
