Marques & Camacho Claim Pan American Titles

Yane Marques (BRA) has continued her sparkling form by winning the 2012 Pan American Championships held in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The Olympic bronze medallist & World #2, was never in doubt to win her 4th Pan American Championships, strolling to a comprehensive 50 seconds victory ahead of Mayan Oliver (MEX) and Pamela Zapata (ARG) who won silver & bronze.

Fellow Olympian Tamara Vega (MEX) continued her poor riding form, only posting 600 points which put her back in 8th position.

The Brazilian’s golden day started in sparkling fashion, winning the fencing with 29 victories and only 7 defeats. She then followed this up and a 3rd place in the swim and a perfect ride which meant no one was ever going to come close to her in the combined event, which she ultimately turned into a training session.

The men’s event was won by Jorge Camacho (MEX), with the Brazilian pair of Danilo Fagundes and William Muinhos claiming silver & bronze.

Like Marques, Camacho’s key to gold was his fencing. The young Mexican only lost 9 of his 30 bouts to be at the top after one discipline. He was not able to match this level in his swim & ride, losing valuable points, however a very strong combined event, ensured that he won his first Pan American Championships.
