With just ten (10) days to go until the 2013 Modern Pentathlon World Cup Final gets underway in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, UIPM is pleased to reveal the final entry list for one of the most highly anticipated events of this season’s calendar. The world’s top pentathletes are all set to battle it out on one of the biggest stages of all and some scintillating action will be expected throughout the three days of competition.
Cooke wins first World Cup Series title with new world record

After placing the fastest time in the pool in the second event of the Men’s Final at World Cup #4 in Budapest, Hungary, Great Britain’s Jamie Cooke recorded a perfect ride to find himself in fourth position overall with just the combined to go. It simply was his day as some sublime shooting, which included a world record, put him on his way to his maiden victory in a World Cup Series event.
18 nations qualify for the Men’s Final

There were bunch finishes in each of the three Men’s Qualification groups in the combined events today at World Cup #4 in Budapest, Hungary. From 80 athletes competing, 36 made it to Sunday’s Final with 18 nations set to be represented.

The state of the art facilities at the Pierre de Coubertin Modern Pentathlon Stadium in Chengdu welcomed a whole host of journalists from across China this morning for the UIPM World Cup #3 Press Conference. All eager to learn about the sport’s new format and see first-hand what was in store during the five-day competition, the local and national media delegates were very inquisitive.
Marosi takes sensational gold in Men’s Final at World Cup #2 Rio

Hungary’s Adam Marosi confirmed he is the man in form this season with gold at the UIPM World Cup #2 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The 28-year-old, who came second at World Cup #1 in Palm Springs last month, was near flawless in the shooting as he came from sixth position to win the combined event in style at the Deodoro Zone course.
Prades and five others share first place in Group ‘B’ going into Final

Valentin Prades of France was first to cross the line at the end of the day’s combined event to put him, along with five others, including Russia’s Illia Frolov, top of his Group with 4376 points. Consistency and especially a sixth place in the fence had him in a comfortable position to end with a time of 12:34:11.
Dymtro Kirpulyanskyy wins the Fencing

Dymtro Kirpulyanskyy (UKR) has continued his fencing form from the qualification rounds to win the fencing in the Men’s final. He scored 25 victories with Jianli Guo (CHN) only 1 victory behind and Dimitrov Blagoy (BUL) a further victory back.
World #1 and 2012 Olympic Medallists all through to Friday’s Final

For the first time on the world level, the new format Combined Event took place now consisting of 4 laps of 800 meters running interspersed by 4 shooting series (still of 5 shots) and a new time out limit for shooting, dropping from 70 to 50 seconds. Olympic Champion David Svoboda (CZE) said "I am glad for the change; for the last 4 years had 3 shooting series; now shooting is more important. My team is very strong in shooting so we are happy to have this extra shooting round."
