Russia’s Serguei Karyakin was the man with the fastest time in the second event of the day with the 25-year-old clocking up 2:01:53 in the water to move up to second overall with two events still to go in the Men’s Final at World Cup 3 in Chengdu.
Marosi takes sensational gold in Men’s Final at World Cup #2 Rio

Hungary’s Adam Marosi confirmed he is the man in form this season with gold at the UIPM World Cup #2 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The 28-year-old, who came second at World Cup #1 in Palm Springs last month, was near flawless in the shooting as he came from sixth position to win the combined event in style at the Deodoro Zone course.

The Hungarian Robert Kasza was peerless in the fencing event, defeating 28 of his 35 opponents in spectacular style and amassing 1072 points in the process. The 26-year was unrelenting as he claimed victory after victory to power past the rest of the field. It was a master class by the European Championships silver medallist as he gave himself a 72 point lead over Russia’s Serguei Karyakin before the swim.

Russians Get some Luck in the Pool

Team Russia represented by Ilia Frolov, Serguei Karyakin and Alexander Savkin has had a stroke of luck to win the swimming in the men’s relay. Despite being beaten by the Ukrainian team, in the pool. The Russians won overall as the Ukrainian Ruslan Nakonechnyi failed to get out of the pool when asked, so Ukraine were docked 40 pentathlon points which means they lose 10 seconds in the combined event. This pushed Ukraine to 3rd in the swim, behind the Czech Republic. Russia’s luck in the pool, combined with their skill in the fence, means they will head into the ride in 1st position ahead of Belarus and Ukarine.
