At the Pierre de Coubertin Modern Pentathlon Stadium, Ukraine celebrated winning the double today, with Pavlo Tymoshchenko adding the Men’s gold medal to the Women’s one Ganna Buryak won at the UIPM World Cup #3 yesterday.

Ukraine’s Pavlo Tymoshchenko was in fine form in the first event of day in the Men’s Final in Chengdu, China, with the 26-year-old Military man claiming 26 wins from 35 bouts to top the leader board with 1024 points before the swim.

There was an expression of sheer delight as World #1 Aleksander Lesun crossed the finish line into the embrace of teammate Ekaterina Khuraskina at the end of the combined event as they celebrated winning the Mixed Relay at the UIPM World Cup #2 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Ekaterina Khuraskina and World #1 Aleksander Lesun were dominant in the fence to claim 1048 points and after placing ninth in the swim went into the riding event as the top team. The Russian duo looked assured from the very beginning and have worked tremendously well as a partnership in the Mixed Relay so far.

Coming out of nowhere, the young Argentinean Franco Ivo Cassini made sure his peers would now remember his name after recording a time of 2:01:09 to win the event in the pool. It was an impressive performance by the teenager.

World #1 Aleksander Lesun (RUS) takes first Gold of 2013 at the Modern Pentathlon World Cup in Palm Springs, USA. The World Champion and World #1 shot flawlessly and never looked like letting the gold medal leave his grasp during the combined event. Olympic Bronze Medalist Adam Marosi (HUN) ran his way into the silver medal and Joseph Evans (GBR) hung on for a well-deserved bronze.
